Membership with the Juan de Fuca
Power & Sail Squadron

Membership with the Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron is open to anyone who has successfully completed the Boating Course (for more information see the COURSES page).

Whether you're just getting started in boating, or are an experienced boater,
we'd love to have you with us.

Our Membership Officer can help you make the arrangements to become a member with Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron and enjoy the benefits of membership.

As you progress through the basic Boating Course you will be starting to think about all that is involved in operating a vessel safely, and keeping up-to-date on the latest marine regulations and procedures.

Before you graduate, we would like you to think about becoming a member of CPS and joining the Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron. Our members and volunteers took the Boating Course, as you have, and then decided to stay connected to the Squadron and give back to the organization that made the course possible.

Membership allows you to take advanced courses that are not available to non-members, as well as elective courses. Many students find that the basic Boating Course whets their appetite for increased learning and knowledge about boating. In addition, some members become proctors to help other students as well as strengthen their own knowledge.

As a member, you'll receive the Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron's newsletter, the Pilot as well as the Bulletin to keep you up-to-date on Squadron events and activities. You'll also receive the CPS supplement The Port Hole four times a year, and Canadian Yachting magazine six times a year. In addition, you'll be sent the annual Roster, which lists all CPS members in the Vancouver Island South District, including a listing by boat name.

You'll belong to a coast-to-coast organization (currently about 34,000 members) and will be a welcome guest at any of the 179 squadrons in 18 districts across Canada. That also extends to USPS, where you'll be equally welcome. Should you move, your membership can be transferred to another squadron.

Members also receive a certificate, suitable for framing and a wallet card. CPS certificates form a permanent record of advanced and elective courses completed. You'll receive a CPS flag for your boat, which makes you instantly recognizable to other CPS members, and signifies that you have had some formal boating training. Police and Coast Guard recognize the CPS flag as meaning the vessel has a knowledgeable skipper.

Members are invited to participate in Squadron roles as proctors, instructors or speakers. Contact the Training Officer if you are interested in contributing in the classroom. Members are also invited to join the Bridge and get involved in the operations of the Squadron. We have several ways for you to become involved in our Squadron.

Please consider membership in the Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron. If you have any questions, our Membership Officer will be happy to help you. You can also express an interest to any of the Bridge members.

If you took the Boating Course some time ago and haven't yet joined, we can help you become a member now. All you need to do is contact the Membership Officer and tell us which squadron you took the course with, and the year that you passed.

If you would like to transfer into the Juan de Fuca Power & Sail Squadron, contact the Membership Officer and tell us your membership number, or the name of the last squadron you were a member of, and the year you were a member. If you need help locating that information, we can help you with that too.

Is your membership information up to date?
Have you moved recently?
